WHO ARE WE?

Grants Pass Youth Basketball is a competitive, community-based basketball program for boys in grades 4th-8th living in the area. This program not only introduces young athletes to the excitement of cavemen basketball but also serves as a valuable feeder for the GPHS boys basketball program, helping to develop future caveman basketball players. The purpose of Grants Pass Youth Basketball is twofold: to provide a fun, challenging youth basketball experience to the Grants Pass community and to prepare participants for the more competitive Grants Pass Youth Basketball scene.

Question and answers

What does the $260 Registration Fee cover?

Any League Fees for Grants Pass Youth Basketball, including tournament fees for post-season tournaments, if necessary. This also encompasses insurance, jerseys, and shooting shirts for players.

Is there Traveling Involved?

For 4th & 5th grade teams, most games are held in Southern Oregon, with 1 - 3 tournaments out of town. For 6th - 8th grade teams, we will predominantly be tournament only teams that will require travel (but we will try to limit overnight stays where possible). Ultimately the decision is left to the discretion of the grade level teams and Coaches. These tournaments are typically in Medford, Eugene, Bend, Salem, or Portland. We do have scholarship funds reserved for Grants Pass Youth Basketball players.

How many GP teams are there?.

In our Grants Pass Youth Basketball program, we aim to have two teams per grade level. This setup ensures that your child, as a player, will practice alongside all their friends. However, it's important to note that they may not be guaranteed a spot on the same competition team as all of their friends, especially in our competitive cavemen basketball league or Grants Pass Youth Basketball events.

How many practices a week? And when will practices start?

There will be a minimum of two practices and possibly three a week for the Grants Pass Youth Basketball teams. For 4th through 6th grade, those practices will start in late November, while 7th and 8th grade practices for Grants Pass Youth Basketball will begin after the middle school season ends. There may be some variance depending on the coach and team needs. Once January hits, gyms and practice times for Cavemen Basketball will be consistent, though until then, gym space is limited.

How does this differ from Boy's and Girl's Club?

In addition to the league and travel tournament details mentioned above, each child participating in Grants Pass Youth Basketball will receive a quality uniform and shooting shirt. There are also some fundamental coaching differences to consider. We will provide consistent varsity level coaching with a more advanced approach to skills and fundamentals. This is designed to ensure that each player is properly equipped for varsity level basketball when they reach Grants Pass High School.
